Week #3 – Tighter standard 8 part braid starts

Another try to sharpen my skills each week in several different areas.

Today I revisited last week’s 8 part braid in Tandy Leather’s superior calf – with focus on the anchor point to the key ring.  You can see the standard one here.  Two weeks previous to that, I tried the over under methodology of starting – which was pretty much trash.  You can see that here.

Today’s results:

Of note here…much tighter top loop.  I forgot the correct tension when I took 6 months off of braiding.

Physicality:

I measure out 72″ per strand.  With four strands total or 4 x 3mm wide strands x 72″ long strands, then folded them in half around the key ring before braiding.  That gave me 8 strands x 3 mm wide x 36″ strands.  I stopped at about 17″ or 18″ of 8 part braided up, then with 18″ of free strand.  Which means I lost about 18″ or to make my 8 part work.
